MASTER JOEL RODRIGUEZ (1959 - 2010) I was very sad when I was told of the unexpected death of my training brother and friend, Master Joel Rodriguez. Joel and I trained together at the 34th Street, 14th Street and 24th Street New York City locations of Ying Jow Pai. Joel then moved on to share his knowledge of kung fu and tai chi - first to Seattle and then to Atlanta, Georgia, where he established his school. Joel and I practiced very hard and seriously, but he always had a sense of humor. No matter how seriously we were practicing or sparring, he always did or said something funny to break the seriousness. He was always there to help anyone who needed it. I never thought I would be writing these words about Joel - he was so full of life and energetic. I guess that is the way God wanted it to be. We were very lucky to have had Joel as long as we did. Now he is resting with God and his mother who he loved so much. I hope that Master Joel's students will carry on his knowledge. God Bless You Brother on your new journey. I will miss you very much. You will live in my heart and mind forever. -Master Frank Marrero |
